Today I bring you the exact steps I'm taking, and helping coachees take, to increase the chance of persevering with our personal goals beyond the next thirty days.

How to avoid new year resolution traps

Condense all resolutions in one list

Do this to clear your head. Grab a piece of paper. Put in there all the things you want to achieve this year. Comb your napkins, digital notes, and thoughts. Aim for quantity, silliness, and absurdity. Will you clear your head?

Shortlist, don't discard

Don't deplete your energy trying to saying "no" to most of the things on your list. Also, don't try to rank them all. That will leave you exhausted. Instead, re-read your resolution list and highlight three of them: the easiest one, the biggest one, and your favorite. Will you avoid getting overwhelmed?

Don't aim to win, stay in the game instead

Do this to savour progress. Write down at least one step that will help you increase the amount of time, effort, and focus invested on short-listed resolutions. In my case, my first step was: to set a weekly event on my calendar for working on my goals. Will you stay in the game?

Have a great day!

Alberto
